The US master codebook has undergone several revisions, and the newest version can be downloaded from the US Project page here. Revised and updated subtopic codes can be found below. Along with existing examples and special notes for each subtopic, short rules were added for further clarification.
- Abortion restrictions have been recoded to 202.
- Child tax credits have been recoded to 1302 or 1308.
- Unemployment insurance has recoded to 503.
- Subtopic 336 has been eliminated and all observations recoded.
- Observations regarding broadband coded in 1706 or 1707.
- Subtopic 2010 expanded to include ethics, impeachment, and scandal.
Datasets updated as part of the 2019 codebook revisions are: Congressional Quarterly almanac, New York Times front page, congressional bills, congressional hearings, Congressional Research Service reports, public laws, public law titles, roll calls, executive orders, veto threats, State of the Union speeches, Supreme Court cases, budget aurthority policy crosswalk, and both Republican and Democratic Party platforms.
